The El Pedregal Cinco de Mayo Salsa Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona
This afternoon, hundreds of folks gathered for the 5th Annual El Pedregal Cinco de Mayo Salsa Festival in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Six local restaurants brought out their best salsas, with many of them bringing two or three different flavors, all hoping to walk away with bragging rights to the best salsa in town.
Emceed by ABC 15 Television’s Andi Barness from Sonoran Living Live, guests were invited to sample specialty salsa recipes from around the valley by some of the most distinguished restaurants including the Spotted Donkey Cantina, El Encanto, Tonto Bar & Grill, the Palo Verde at the Boulders Resort and more, while listening to festive Latin, Jazz and American hits on stage by the popular, Freddie Duran Plan band.
In addition, there were tequila tastings from Chamucos Tequila, and The Bakery Café featured traditional Mexican desserts and beverages while the Boulders outdoor grill cooked up hot items including tacos al carbon, and tostada de carnitas. YUM!
The Roaming Boomers® were honored to be a part of the guest judges panel, and here’s how the winners stacked up:
- 1st Place – Cantina Laredo
- 2nd Place – Palo Verde at The Boulders Resort
- Most Innovative – Spotted Donkey’s Jicama Salsa
- Spiciest – 3 Margaritas.

Video: Former Miss USA Susie Castillo Claims Sexual Assault by TSA
This is a video (shown below) that is currently going viral on YouTube. Former Miss USA Susie Castillo is tearfully claiming that she was sexually assaulted by the TSA in the Dallas/Ft.Worth airport.

“Well, this pat down was completely different. It was MUCH MORE invasive than my first one at LAX, just a week before. To say that I felt invaded is an understatement. What bothered me most was when she ran the back of her hands down my behind, felt around my breasts, and even came in contact with my vagina! Honestly, I was in shock, especially since the woman at LAX never actually touched me there. The TSA employee at DFW touched private area 4 times, going up both legs from behind and from the front, each time touching me there. Was I at my gynecologist’s office? No! This was crazy!”
We (The Roaming Boomers®) have never come close to such a circumstance, but this type of thing seems to keep raising its ugly head.

A Walk Down the National Mall
Stretching just shy of 2 miles long, the National Mall in Washington DC is chock full of green open space, dotted with numerous museums, and memorials dedicated to former presidents and war veterans. We spent the good part of a day exploring all that this cultural icon had to offer, taking videos and snapshots to share with you. el Pedregal hosts its fifth annual Salsa Festival throughout the gorgeous outdoor amphitheatre on Sunday, May 1st showcasing more than a dozen Arizona Chefs and Restaurants!
