Without light a photographer would be as a noisy clanging cymbal in a black hole as the absence of light means the absence of a photograph.
Conversely, there are times when the light seemingly steals the show from the object that the light is illuminating.
In the early morning light, I was walking the beach at the Punta Canta Resort & Club which is the sister resort of the Tortuga Bay Resort in which we were staying.
As you can see, there was a fair amount of cloud cover this morning. However, experience has taught me that these clouds and just the right amount of morning sun peeking out can create a seriously dramatic scene.
These thatched roof buildings seemed to me to be a wonderful subject for a photograph. However, when I first spied them, they were draped in drab, gray, ugly light.
I decided to wait and see if the sun might pop out and paint these structures with all the glory of its morning light.
My patience rewarded me with the most beautiful golden light painted across the buildings and the water.
Thanks God!

I have been reading that more than a few traveling baby boomers have been shocked out of their minds when they found huge charges for international data roaming on their cell phone bills made during a recent international trip.
You see, when you’re traveling internationally, there are companies out their who are happy to give you “roaming” cellular service. However, the charges are often over $1.00/minute!
Furthermore, what catches people off guard is that they are unknowingly being charged to view their e-mail which they didn’t compute as using international data roaming services.
So, to prevent unwanted data roaming charges on your iPhone, do this:
- Tap the Settings app on your home screen.
- Tap General
- Tap Network
- Slide the Data Roaming slider to Off.
To prevent your phone from using any cellular service, do this:
- Tap the Settings app on your home screen.
- Tap General
- Tap Network
- Slide Cellular Data to Off.
This will turn your iPhone into a WiFi only device, assuming that you have WiFi enabled.
If you find that searching for a WiFi signal won’t meet your needs, call your cell phone carrier before you leave to inquire about their international data and cellular roaming services.
