Avoid International Data Roaming Charges
I have been reading that more than a few traveling baby boomers have been shocked out of their minds when they found huge charges for international data roaming on their cell phone bills made during a recent international trip.
You see, when you’re traveling internationally, there are companies out their who are happy to give you “roaming” cellular service. However, the charges are often over $1.00/minute!
Furthermore, what catches people off guard is that they are unknowingly being charged to view their e-mail which they didn’t compute as using international data roaming services.
So, to prevent unwanted data roaming charges on your iPhone, do this:
- Tap the Settings app on your home screen.
- Tap General
- Tap Network
- Slide the Data Roaming slider to Off.
To prevent your phone from using any cellular service, do this:
- Tap the Settings app on your home screen.
- Tap General
- Tap Network
- Slide Cellular Data to Off.
This will turn your iPhone into a WiFi only device, assuming that you have WiFi enabled.
If you find that searching for a WiFi signal won’t meet your needs, call your cell phone carrier before you leave to inquire about their international data and cellular roaming services.
