When Can We Travel to Europe Again?
When Can We Travel to Europe Again?
We are often asked, “when can we travel to Europe again?”
Well, thankfully, we are very pleased to inform you that the answer is: THIS SUMMER!
Travel to European Union Member Countries
The European Union consists of 27 different European countries. On Wednesday, the member countries agreed to re-open their borders to fully vaccinated travelers from countries that are deemed safe.
While the plan has yet to be signed into law, you can learn more about these developments by CLICKING HERE.
While we wait for the EU to complete their requirements for summer travel, Greece and Italy are currently open to Americans, with France soon to follow.
And just this week, Viking and Uniworld announced the opening of select European river cruises to begin this summer.
Further, every ocean cruise line on our Favorite Ocean Cruise Brands list has announced plans for a restart this summer or early fall.
A Word of Caution
While this is all very exciting news, we expect the startup to be messy.
While many countries are currently open, with many more coming online very soon, there is a dizzying array of requirements that you must comply with.
And while the current reopening trend is geared towards the fully vaccinated traveler, there are destinations open to the unvaccinated.
For example, the president of France has laid out a reopening plan that would allow “foreign tourists” with a health pass (tied to being fully vaccinated or having a negative COVID-19 PCR test) to enter France beginning June 9, 2021, if COVID-19 levels remain under control.
And as of this writing, the U.S. still requires a negative PCR test for reentry into the United States.

Further, while ocean and river cruise brands are reopening, the overwhelming majority of them require full vaccinations at this time.
To make things even more confusing, the CDC has yet to update its Level 4: Do Not Travel warnings still posted for most of the world.
For example, the CDC still warns us all not to go to Antarctica due to Covid-19. Really? Are the penguins going to give me Covid?
