New DoubleScoop App Connects Kids to Their Grandparents
This is a sponsored guest post from Tina Marquis with DoubleScoop.
My dad is turning 70 this fall. I casually asked him what we should do to celebrate this milestone. ‘Umm…’ he hesitated. ‘Well,’ my mom chimed in, ‘we’re going to be in Europe for two weeks, then popping over to NYC for a couple days, then we’re having a little reunion with college friends in the Pacific Northwest.’
Really? My parents weren’t available to celebrate their birthday with me, my husband and their two granddaughters? I know times have changed and I appreciate their spirit of adventure, but c’mon. My daughters were crushed.
Don’t lose touch with your grandkids while you’re away!
My kids and their grandparents have a very close relationship that we nurture through frequent visits, telephone calls, Skype and even snail mail. We love that they know each other so well, down to everyday details of each others’ lives, even though we live in different parts of the country. But maintaining frequent contact is trickier when my parents are traveling, especially when they are galavanting outside the United States.
Fortunately, cell phones, and especially iPads, are making it easier for my parents and kids to stay in touch. My 8 year-old daughter can send email. It’s a little trickier for my 4 year-old daughter, though, who won’t be reading for a while. So I was thrilled when I ran into a couple of people in my town that were working on a new technology focused just on connecting kids and grandparents. Hooray, I thought. My family has been testing the app, which works on PC and Mac computers, as well as iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches, and it’s perfect for us.
This is how it works. Young kids and grandparents can keep in touch by drawing pictures, exchanging photos, recording voice messages and songs, and typing stories. And now that our family has been using it for a while, I appreciate it even more since my two girls are able to communicate with her grandparents every day or two without me having to find a convenient time for everyone, or having to look over their shoulders to make sure there is no Viagra or belly fat ads popping up while they email. In fact, I don’t have to do much of anything – they send messages while I cook dinner or drive them to the pool. And they all seem to love it.
So, I can’t change my parents’ travel schedule. But we can send a photo of our girls and sing Happy Birthday to my dad on his 70th, and he can replay it all he wants, wherever he might be. And my girls love the messages and photos they send about their travels and their lives. On a positive note, my mom is going to let us celebrate her birthday with her, and we look forward to a birthday trip to their house next year.
New DoubleScoop App Connects Kids to Their Grandparents
New App Allows Children To Communicate via Drawings, Audio Recordings, Photos and Text Messages Directly with their Grandparents and Extended Family Members
BOULDER, Colo. – June 2012 – DoubleScoop has announced the launch of its application that allows children as young as three years old to safely and easily share voice messages, photographs and drawings with their grandparents over PC and Mac computers, iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices.
The new app, available at www.doublescoop.net, creates a private and secure way for children and their grandparents – as well as other members of their extended family – to stay connected.
Under the supervision of their parents, DoubleScoop lets children send and receive photographs, drawings, text and even voice messages to and from an approved list of contacts. The app is currently free, and the launch will allow the company to build a solid user base of early adopters to solicit feedback for further improvements and upgrades.
“We built DoubleScoop because our own families were struggling to keep our kids and their grandparents closely connected,” said Tina Marquis, director of marketing at DoubleScoop. “My grandmother was so important in my life, and I want to help my kids build strong relationships with their grandparents. DoubleScoop facilitates communication between the generations like no other tool on the market.”
The DoubleScoop app allows for an interactive experience for children and a hands-off experience for parents, as kids as young as three years old find the app easy to use. With DoubleScoop, children aren’t exposed to strangers or inappropriate ads like those found on other social networking sites, which often leave children and their personal information exposed to an unknown audience.
DoubleScoop is one-to-one, safe and easy to use on PC and Mac computers, iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
