Last Chance: Norway Closing Fjords to Cruise Ships
Last Chance: Norway Closing Fjords to Cruise Ships
Last chance: Norway is closing its famous fjords to cruise ships in 2026.
If you have yet to cruise in the world-renowned Norwegian Fjords, you must put it at the top of your bucket list. In 2026, cruise lines will no longer be allowed to sail in the fjords unless they are completely emission-free (informational link). Currently, no cruise ships are emission-free.
Carol and I sailed the Norwegian Fjords with Silversea in 2022, and it was one of our favorite cruises ever! To read our review, please CLICK HERE.
The Norwegian fjords, carved by glaciers leaving stunning deep blue waters lined by towering cliffs, are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Norway has over 1,190 fjords, some plunging over 4,265 feet deep! The Sognefjord is Norway’s longest at 127 miles. Tiny farms impossibly cling to the steep fjord sides. Kayaking, hiking, and cruises let visitors experience their grandeur. With dramatic landscapes and pristine waters, they offer some of Earth’s most breathtaking scenery. The Geirangerfjord’s famous waterfalls drop nearly 2,000 feet from dizzying heights. Their outstanding universal value earned many fjords UNESCO World Heritage status.
Norwegian Fjord Intensive Cruises
I shared the Norwegian government’s plans to close the fjords in our newsletter a few months back, and we’ve had quite a response, so I thought I had better write an article on the subject.
So here is our list of recommended Norwegian fjord intensive cruises:
- Silversea (5 stars) – 10 days and very fjord intensive: CLICK HERE.

Please know that this list isn’t intended to be exhaustive; it is more of an introduction to the various cruises with itineraries and pricing. If you are interested in exploring the Norwegian Fjords, give us a shout, and we’ll be happy to help.
