Freezing Weather in N. Scottsdale Prompts Baseball Caps on Cactus
While this article has nothing to do with travel, per se, I thought you might get a kick out of what happens in our neighborhood when freezing weather comes our way in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Our home sets at an elevation of 2400 ft. in the mountain foothills. As we are roughly 1,000 ft above Phoenix, our temperatures will generally fall 8-10 degrees cooler than those found at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Therefore, when Phoenix is calling for an occasional winter freeze in the valley, our neighborhood snaps into action covering non-indigenous landscape materials.
The bottom scene is our front yard, and I certainly got a kick out of one of my neighbors protecting his cactus with baseball caps. 🙂
I remember cowboy movies depicting bone-chilling winter nights in the southwestern deserts. Now we understand very clearly!
