Crystal Cruises in Bankruptcy
Crystal Cruises in Bankruptcy
Sadly, Crystal Cruises is in bankruptcy with $2.8 billion of debt in default.
You can read more about this here and here.
Crystal Cruises enjoyed “best luxury cruise line” status for nearly two decades.
Carol and I first sailed with Crystal Cruises in 2016 and came away raving fans.
However, after the Malaysian billionaire Lim Kok bought the cruise line a few years back, we were disappointed with our second Crystal Cruises journey.
Further, as we stepped into the Covid-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, we started to see financial stress cracks building as we had to fight very hard to get client refunds from cruises canceled by Crystal Cruises.
Further still, as we got deeper into the worldwide pandemic and found ourselves still fighting with the cruise line, we suspended taking new bookings for Crystal Cruises.
In hindsight, this was a good decision as, thankfully, we have no bookings with Crystal Cruises, and not one of our clients will suffer any financial harm.
Should You Worry About Other Cruise Lines Going Bankrupt?
As a trusted travel advisor, this has been top of mind for us as we pull into the final innings of this pandemic.
Frankly, there are a few other cruise lines on our naughty list that we won’t currently book, but for the most part, we’ve been pleased to see how most of the ocean and river cruise lines have navigated these treacherous waters over the past two years.

Sadly, thousands of folks are sure to lose all of the money they paid for their Crystal Cruise.
The cruise lines that we work with are vetted through our Virtuoso Travel Network, with further vetting from our host agency Cadence, and finally, the cruise line must also make it through our sniff test.
We are a relationship-driven company, and if we don’t feel confident that a travel brand can deliver what they promise, then we run for the hills.
And if I may be so bold, there is no reason for you to make a cruise booking on your own. You’re not going to get a better price, and you don’t know what you don’t know. And as we are one of the top cruise booking travel advisors in the nation, our relationships will come in handy if a problem does arise.
As I’ve said in the past, we don’t recommend that our clients watch a YouTube video to do their own dentistry, and we also don’t recommend that you book travel on your own.
We bring significant value to our clients, and we do it all at the same price as those who are tempted to do it themselves.
