2 Comments on “Coming Soon – The Big Island of Hawaii”
Hi, I have not been to The Big Island but have known people who have both lived there. I know Maui well and have been to both Maui and Oahu many times. Weather-wise, you should be fine if you're planning to go in the near future (i.e. no rainy season, etc.). The only words of advice I can so regarding the Volcano Nat'l Park is not to go hiking off by yourself. Obviously common sense – keep with the park ranger and where most people go. Don't expect to get anywhere close to where the magma is pouring. Sometimes there is a problem with vog (sulphurous air coming off of the magma pouring into the ocean) and it's too poisonous to be around. We went flight-seeing from Maui to the volcano area where it pours into the sea, several years ago and there was a problem with vog.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your tips! I have been reading the National Park Service's website, and in fact they have closed a portion of the Crater Rim Drive because of new vent activity.
I guess all I can do is hope that my two days are presented with the right set of circumstances so that I might get some great photographs.
We do plan to do some hiking, but certainly not off the trail.
Thanks again for stopping by, and if you haven't already, please connect with us through Facebook, Twitter, RSS Feed, or e-mail.
