World’s Most Popular Luxury Cruise Destinations
World’s Most Popular Luxury Cruise Destinations
The world’s most popular luxury cruise destinations. It’s an often-asked question.
Ever since the waning of the pandemic, the ocean cruise industry has shattered previously held booking records.
Roaming Boomers Travel Services has also shattered our previous booking records, and we already have more bookings made for 2023 than we did in 2022.
The cruise companies have been busy building new ships, and luxury baby boomer travelers have booked ocean cruises with a vengeance never before seen in history.
So where are all of these ships sailing?
Here’s the list
According to the Cruise Industry News 2022 Annual Luxury Market Report (see graphic), Europe is enjoying a whopping 47% of the world’s ocean cruise destinations.
And our booking records would agree. Let’s take a deeper look…
- Med – This includes all of the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. With a 30.2% market share, this is the world’s most popular cruise destination.
- NW Europe – This region includes the British Isles, Scandinavia, Iceland, and the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. We are seeing increased interest in this region as many folks have already experienced many Mediterranean destinations. Currently, NW Europe enjoys a 17.1% market share, which is growing.
- Asia/Pacific – This vast region encompasses all of the countries surrounding the Pacific Ocean, minus Australia, New Zealand, and South America. Currently, at 11.9%, this region was hit hard by the pandemic, and many countries (think Japan) are only now reopening.
- Caribbean – While many luxury baby boomer travelers have cruised in the Caribbean, it remains popular as an all-inclusive winter getaway with a 10.1% market share.
- Alaska – If you’ve not enjoyed a cruise of Alaska’s Inside Passage, you should. It’s close to home, stunningly beautiful, and has a 6.8% growing market share. Carol and I have sailed Alaska four times, and I’d do it again.
I won’t go through the entire list, but I would encourage you to think a little bit outside the box. With an ever-increasing number of cruise ships being delivered each year, the destinations offered by these luxurious floating hotels are becoming greater and greater.
And, with a large influx of expedition ships coming in the next few years, cruising the Antarctic, the Arctic, the Amazon, or even Australia’s fabulous Kimberlys is now easier than ever.
