World’s Most Popular Cruise Destinations
World’s Most Popular Cruise Destinations
The graphic to the right (via the Cruise Industry News Annual Report) shares the world’s most popular cruise destinations.
We need to read the tea leaves here, as this report considers all cruise lines serving the U.S. market.
And the largest cruise lines, with the largest ships (holding upwards of 5,000 people), are driving the majority of these statistics.
And as we don’t book the large-ship cruise lines, we will need to interject a little interpretation.
Luxury Baby Boomer Travelers’ Favorite Cruise Destinations
As I peer at this list, it tells me that the Caribbean is the most popular destination for cruisers.
And while that may be true for all cruises, that is not the case with our luxury boomer travelers.
After all, we listened to Kathie Lee Gifford’s call to have some fun at Carnival Cruise Lines back in the 1980s. We lined up by the millions, and Carnival Cruise Lines is still the world’s largest cruise brand.
However, baby boomer travelers have been there and done that. And baby boomer travelers generally don’t want to sail on a ship with 5,000 people, lots of kids, and 30-somethings drinking beer and looking for their own “Ain’t We Got Fun” experience.
In our travel agency, we find that the Mediterranean and Northern Europe dominate our ocean cruise bookings.
After that, we find that Alaska, Canada/New England, Australia/New Zealand, South America, Panama Canal, Antarctica, and the Caribbean round out our list of the most popular destinations for ocean cruising.
We will generally have a fair amount of Asia/Pacific cruises on our books each year, but that part of the world has been slow to open after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, with all of the new ocean liners coming in the next few years, we see increased interest in Africa and the Indian Ocean/Red Sea.
For example, here are 51 available cruises in Africa and the Indian Ocean from our friends at Silversea.
Therefore, as you consider where to take your next cruise, why not consider off of the beaten path?
