Visiting the Valrhona City of Chocolate
You want to know how to create a mob scene out of baby boomer travelers?
Tell them that they’re going to visit the Valrhona City of Chocolate and that they can eat all of the free chocolate samples they want! What? Willy Wonka?
The city of Tain l’Hermitage in the Rhone Valley of France was a stop on one of our Viking River Cruises shore excursions. And, I have a confession to make … I totally let you down as a travel photographer on this particular stop. The place was so crowded, I decided that I was not going to go inside the store.
You see, Viking River Cruises is not the only travel provider in the land that knows about the Valrhona City of Chocolate. The place was a total mob scene.
There were bowls of button sized chocolates of every conceivable flavor placed throughout the store for folks to sample. And, as you can see in my photograph, there was no shortage of people wanting to get inside and gleefully fill their little chipmunk cheeks with chocolate. 😀
How do I know that there were bowls of chocolates inside?
Alright, I did make a quick sneak inside. But, where I let you down is that I didn’t take any photographs inside. I filled my own cheeks, and ran back out the door. 😯
Now thankfully, Carol is a professional at these types of things and she was more than willing to weave her way through the crowd.
In fact, as I’m writing this article, I’m gleefully enjoying a fabulous Valrhona dark chocolate. YUM!
So, just know that when you sail the Rhone River with Viking River Cruises, you’re going to have the opportunity to sample all the Valrhona chocolate you can eat. I just hope you’re a little more patient with the large crowds than I am. 🙂
Now, back to my dark chocolate…
