Visiting the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, Miami Beach
I suppose there exists luxury travelers who shy away from the beach scene in Miami because of the whirlwind of pleasure-seekers that have made South Beach an international destination for such pursuits.
We’ve stayed on Miami Beach twice now, and in both occasions stayed north of the hubbub of South Beach by selecting a luxury hotel in North Beach. North Beach offers luxury travelers a nice selection of world-class hotels, a far more tranquil beach setting, and for those who still desire a taste of the South Beach scene, it’s only a 15-minute cab ride away.
In our recent visit to Miami Beach, we selected to spend a few nights at the Forbes five-star, and AAA five-diamond St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort.
Bal Harbour is known as South Florida’s glamor and fashion capitol, and the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort is directly across the street from one of the most luxurious shopping venues in the world: the Bal Harbour Shops. Plus, with close proximity to South Beach, the hotel is only 16 miles away from the Miami International Airport, and 15 miles away from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort opened in January of 2012, and within a year found itself on the Condé Naste Hot List, as well as qualifying to be one of our Virtuoso Travel Network’s Best of the Best Hotels/Resorts.
The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort offers 227 total guest rooms and suites, including 139 king rooms and 34 double rooms, 63 one-bedroom king suites, 7 two-bedroom king suites and 1 presidential suite. Further, guests can enjoy ocean views from every room with sizes ranging from 650 to 2,800 square feet, each complete with individual balconies.
Further still, the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort offers butler service to its guests, six dining options including the Signature J&G Grill by internationally-renown Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a 14,000 sq ft spa, two pools, private cabanas and daybeds, a large white-sand beach with beach chairs and umbrellas, a fabulous fitness center, and as I mentioned above, a quiet respite away from the maddening crowd.
For our stay, we enjoyed the 15th-floor Grand Luxe Oceanfront Room that we photographed below.

Peek-a-boo, see me in the mirror below?
We found the bathroom to be particularly beautiful with clean lines and beautiful lighting.
And, the view from our deck wasn’t too shabby either!
The St. Regis’ signature J&G Grill is an absolute must. Chef de Cuisine Bradley Kilgore knocked it right out of the park. When folks ask us about our favorite restaurants in the world, this will be on the list. It’s that good!
J&G Grill’s curated menu features such innovative Jean-Georges creations as Black Truffle Pizza with Fontina Cheese or Tuna Tartare with Avocado, Radish, and Soy Ginger Dressing as starters, and entrées ranging from our Simply Cooked section of simply prepared quality meats and fish to uniquely composed dishes such as Glazed Short Ribs with Apple-Jalapeno Puree and Rosemary Crumbs. There are also refined tasting menus, and an extensive wine selection, handcrafted specialty cocktails and house-made sodas.
Also, if you desire something light, the sushi in the St. Regis Bar is absolutely awesome!
And of course, the star of the show, and the whole reason we’re here: the white sandy beach!
If you’ve been thinking about a vacation to the sunny shores of Miami, we can highly recommend the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort. Our two-night stay was too short, and we want to go back.
