U.S. Overseas Travel Advisory Lifted
The U.S. Overseas Travel Advisory was lifted yesterday by the State Department.
Here is information from their press release:
“On August 6, in close coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of State lifted the Global Level 4 Health Advisory. The Global Advisory initially put in place on March 19, 2020, advised U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.
With health and safety conditions improving in some countries and potentially deteriorating in others, the Department is returning to our previous system of country-specific levels of travel advice (with Levels from 1-4 depending on country-specific conditions), to give travelers detailed and actionable information to make informed travel decisions. This will also provide U.S. citizens with more detailed information about the current status in each country. We continue to recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution when traveling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.
U.S. citizens considering traveling abroad should review the entire Travel Advisory for their destination(s) on Travel.State.gov. A full list of recent updates to Travel Advisories can be found here: https://travel.state.gov/
So What?
With the U.S. Overseas Travel Advisory lifted, perhaps this is an excellent first step towards travel normalcy.
Today, the European Union, the U.K, and Canada ban travel from the United States. However, as our nation gets control of COVID-19, we will see those destinations lift their travel bans.
Further, the world’s major cruise lines have suspended sailings through October of 2020. But again, this too will pass.
Therefore, having the U.S. Overseas Travel Advisory lifted may not have us dancing in the streets. However, it does provide a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Wear a mask if you can’t social distance, wash your hands frequently, and let’s get this COVID-19 problem behind us. 🙂

Thank you for the glimmer of hope! I can’t tell you how often we have thought about our two river cruises to lighten our day during these crazy times.
I have watched some of Vikings videos and enjoyed them.
Hi Chris,
You’re welcome. We too are looking forward to again traveling. After all, we’re not the Stay at Home Boomers. 🙂
