Top 10 U.S. Foodie Cities for 2014
As luxury baby boomer travelers, one of the aspects we enjoy in our travels is exploring the culinary scenes of each of our destinations.
In fact, in the pages of our Roaming Boomers® website, you’ll find literally hundreds of restaurant reviews where we’ve personally sampled the cuisine of fabulous chefs all over the world.
Simply pick a destination that we’ve visited (in the destinations tab above), pick a city that we’ve visited with our Roaming Boomer hats on, and you’re certain to find restaurant reviews and photographs from our experiences.
Further, when our travel schedule permits, we hold fun-filled chef’s table events in Scottsdale, AZ for our readers. Click the photo to the right for more information.
Livability.com explores what makes small to mid-sized cities in the U.S. great places to live, work, and visit. And, as a part of their exploration, they create an annual list from a foodies’ perspective.
To create their list, first of all they limit the pickings to small and mid-sized cities. From there, their ranking criteria incorporates the frequency that residents eat at local restaurants, amount that residents spend on food, access to healthy food options, number of farmers’ markets, number of restaurants, and finally, the number of James Beard Foundation Award winners.
Top 10 Small and Mid-Sized Foodie Cities, 2014
- New Haven, CT
- Scottsdale, AZ
- Boston, MA
- Asheville, NC
- Traverse City, MI
- Berkeley, CA
- Boulder, CO
- Burlington, VT
- Omaha, NE
- Washington, D.C.
We live in Scottsdale, have owned homes in Asheville and Traverse City, and absolutely love Washington, D.C. So, we find some credibility in their list, and also find a desire to visit some of the other destinations on the list. Hmmmm, I’m thinking New Haven, Boston, Burlington, and Boulder. But, I must say, I’m a little surprised that Santa Fe, NM isn’t on the list.
How ’bout you? Have you dined in any of these cities? If so, what was your favorite restaurant?
