The Popularity of iPad Travel Photography

Well, we’re just back from two weeks in Southern France. Between violent cough attacks that we’re both suffering through from colds we caught on the last few days of our trip, I must now sort through and catalog over 1,000 photographs.
As a travel photographer, I tend to pay attention to the photography gear folks are using to capture their precious travel photographs. The most predominant trend I’ve noticed is the growing abundance of selfie sticks. But I still continue to marvel at the number of folks walking around with big ole iPads to capture their photos. I captured this Russian gal shooting a photograph of the famous Roman bridge in Avignon, France.
To be honest, I don’t quite get it. Don’t they know they can capture the same photograph with the iPhone that is probably in that same bag? Perhaps it’s the allure of a larger in the moment photograph to view and share. Or, perhaps, folks like the idea of taking the photograph with one device that can also easily catalog their photographs for them.
Nonetheless, as you travel about the world this summer, expect to see quite a number of folks with outstretched arms taking travel photographs with their iPads.
As the French would say, “C’est la vie” (that’s life). 🙂
Stay tuned for lots of photographs and stories from our most recent trip with Viking River Cruises in the South of France…
