Might the flying cars of George Jetson be just around the corner?

What if you could pull your car out of the garage, push a button, and fly away to your favorite nearby travel destination?

Well, a company called Terrafugia, Latin for “Escape the Earth”, has a working prototype that does exactly that. While the currently working model isn’t as slick looking as this futuristic artist’s rendition of a future model, the age of the flying car is actually here.

In fact, in 2012, the company had a backlog of 100 orders for their upcoming flying car.

I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the day when I can say to Carol, “hey honey, let’s jump in the car and fly over to Santa Barbara”.
