Shangri-La Hotel Paris: Former Palace of Napoleon’s Grand Nephew
A Night in the Shangri-La Hotel, Paris
If you scan the Internet for the most romantic city in the world, Paris is quite likely to be at the top of most lists.
And if you’re looking for the most romantic city in the world for a special romantic getaway, then we figure you might as well stay in a palace once owned by Prince Roland Bonaparte (Napoleon’s grand nephew), with a view like this from your hotel. Agree?
Carol and I were fortunate to spend a night in the Shangri-La Hotel, Paris for a night during our recent visit to Paris. We were suppose to spend two nights, but weather in the U.S. delayed our trip a day. 🙁
Also, when we arrived, the hotel was completely sold out, so they decided to put us up for the night in the La Suite Impériale, a 3,000 sq.ft space that once was Prince Roland Bonaparte’s private apartment inside this massive palace. Unquestionably, the finest hotel room we’ve ever experienced. More on that later…
The first thing you should know about Shangri-La Hotel, Paris is that less than four years after its opening, Shangri-La Hotel, Paris has been awarded the coveted “Palace status”, which enables the hotel to join the prestigious circle of Parisian “Palaces”. Established in 2010, the Palace status is designed to award official recognition to the finest 5-star hotels that have exceptional qualities embodying French standards of excellence and contributing to enhancing the image of France throughout the world.
A fabulous 5-star hotel with “Palace Status” to boot!
First impressions were very high when we pulled up to the front door. As this was formerly Prince Bonaparte’s residential palace, it sits in a historic residential district that was hand selected by the prince for its proximity to the Seine and its strategic location at the heart of Paris’ most exciting urban and social scenes. Plus, for today’s tourists, the Eiffel Tower is readily visible, and within walking distance.
The other impression that was immediately noticeable was an unspoken, fanatical attention to detail that belied pretentiousness, but yet seemed to whisper, “you’re going to have a fabulous and luxurious stay in our very special hotel”.
