Scottsdale: Sunset Bagpipes and Holiday Paintscaping
Looking for something fun to do in Scottsdale, Arizona between Christmas and New Years?
Let us recommend a visit to the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa for drinks, sunset bagpipes, s’mores, and even a special laser light show projected on the hotel.
Your evening will begin in Dreamweaver’s Canyon, a beautifully landscaped patio area behind the hotel replete with seating, blankets (if you desire), propane heaters, a fire-pit by the lake to roast s’mores, and ample staff on hand to bring you drinks, snacks, cigars, or what ever else might help you wind down the day.
In December, your evening will start at 5:00 p.m. with live sunset bagpipes playing over the beautiful desert landscape.
The “Scottish Pipes at Sunset” is the original tribute to the Scottish immigrants where guests and families are encouraged to gather around the fire pit every evening at the Resort’s Dreamweaver’s Canyon to enjoy the haunting sounds of the Scottish Bagpipes.
Bagpipes at Sunset Schedule:
January – February: 5:30 – 6:30 pm
March: 6:00 – 7:00 pm
April – August: 6:30 – 7:30 pm
September: 6:00 – 7:00 pm
October: 5:30 – 6:30 pm
November – December: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
After enjoying the ethereal sounds of the bagpipes, you’ll have roughly a half-hour to roast marshmallows over the fire.
At 6:30, you’ll enjoy the walls of the Westin Kierland come alive with holiday images, including elves decorating the balconies and snow falling in the desert. It’s the only show of its kind in Arizona!
The art of “PaintScaping” — which comes from “painting the landscape” — merges a virtual world with the existing world by projecting images onto buildings that act as the canvas for characters, colors, and objects as living and moving parts of its features.
Founded by an award-winning computer animator, PaintScaping will make the Westin Kierland Resort it’s newest canvas, integrating the features of the main building and adding emotion and context with computer generated holiday characters, snow and cheer.
While the PaintScaping show is relatively short, you’ll gawk with wonder as bricks seemingly move out of the walls of the hotel to make steps for various paintscaped characters to climb.
Further, you’ll enjoy elves sneaking from hotel room to hotel room, as well as Santa and his sleigh backdropped against a beautiful full Arizona moon.
Grab your kids, your grandchildren, a light jacket, and go enjoy a very memorable evening in Scottsdale at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa.
