Review: Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora
Review: Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora
Here is the review from our recent Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora visit.
Do you want to know what we’re smiling about? I shot this selfie just moments after we arrived for our second visit at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.
And why do we recommend visiting the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora?
How about the mind-boggling, gobsmacking, jaw-dropping beauty found on this French Polynesian island surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and coral reef?
And if you don’t believe me, how about Captain James Cook’s description of Bora Bora on his first visit: “Scarcely a spot on the universe affords a more luxurious prospect.”

We made our first visit back in 2012. Here’s the video from our first visit:
The Destination
The Pacific island of Bora Bora is a geological work of art: an inactive, sunken volcano ringed by a coral string of tiny islands, or motus. The result: a majestic island lush with ferns and palms, fresh with the scent of flowers, and protected from the open ocean by its surrounding atoll.
Bora Bora’s turquoise-colored inner lagoons provide shelter to countless schools of tropical fish and other ocean life. The island is also a gem of Polynesian culture, a place where the dancing, singing, culinary, and seafaring traditions of the Maohi people are woven into daily island life.
The most famous of French Polynesia’s Leeward Islands in the heart of the South Pacific, Bora Bora, was formed by a volcanic eruption some four million years ago. Bora Bora is among the youngest land masses on the planet, born from beneath the sea rather than through continental drift.
The island’s people are a testament to human ingenuity and exploration: the original Maohi migrants sailed in large pahi or outrigger canoes with neither the North Star to guide them nor a written language to record their voyage. They traveled vast distances — far greater than any Western culture had yet attempted — to colonize the many distant islands of the South Pacific. Bora Bora’s original settlers arrived around the 4th century, some 13 centuries before European explorers stumbled upon it.
The Resort
The Resort offers 108 overwater bungalow suites and seven beachfront villa estates, all designed with thatched roofs and decorated with indigenous artwork.
Under the direction of Executive Chef Eric Desbordes, four restaurants offer a vast selection of creative culinary experiences. From Polynesian to French to traditional favorites, all complemented by special open-air dining, from private oceanside dinners to Tahitian beach parties with musicians and fire dancers.
A full-service spa, balanced by the powerful rhythms of the Pacific Ocean and the secluded tranquility of the island’s lagoon – and featuring an overwater spa suite – offers a combination of relaxation and exhilaration that only Bora Bora’s unique location can provide.
Set upon a sprawling 22 hectares (54 acres), the Resort meets a vast array of needs and accommodates a wide variety of entertainment programs. Facilities for families are unrivaled in the region: a Kids for All Seasons clubhouse with a splash pad for children ages 5 – 12. Four Seasons’ connection with the island community provides a truly authentic Polynesian experience. Local guides are available for many excursions, as is the Resort’s own marine biologist, providing a wealth of learning opportunities, whether scientific or cultural.
