No More Hotel Room Service: Do you Care?
Let me ask you a question: how important is hotel room service to you? Or better yet, would you be upset if your hotel no longer offered room service?
In recent weeks, Hilton Hotels has announced that it will discontinue offering room service in two of its largest and most prestigious luxury destinations.
As I mull the prospect of no room service over in my mind, I find myself somewhat indifferent.
First of all, I shudder when I think of the times we’ve spent $80 for a pot of coffee, a bowl of oatmeal, a dab of yogurt, some fruit, and a piece of toast.
Room service has gotten so absurdly expensive in some locations, Carol has taken to packing a small, flexible cooler and packing in our own breakfast items.
For us, keep the special and get rid of the mundane!
When we’re traveling, we enjoy having breakfast available in our room as we’re preparing for the day. However, at $80, we find that the convenience and experience of room service just doesn’t tip the value scale for us.
Now, having said that, let’s not leave out all of the romance. For special occasions, a bottle of champagne accompanied by a few delectables can help spice up a special evening.
So, I say, give me a coffee pot in my room and we’ll either pack in our own quickie breakfast or we’ll meet you down in the restaurant. However, dear hotels, you might leave a few special occasion deliverables on your room service menu. After all, you don’t want to kill all the romance of a luxurious stay at your property.

It’s terrible that room service is disappearing. I have had breakfast in my room on check-out day many times. Another travel amenity on its way out.
