What? No Coffee Pot in my Hotel Room?
Is it just me, or do you also get upset when there is no coffee pot in your hotel room?
When I get out of bed in the morning, I have three things on my mind: thanking God for a new day, finding my way to the bathroom, and waking up with a nice piping-hot cup of java in my hand.
It never ceases to amaze me when we encounter a luxury hotel that has made the decision to deprive their guests of their morning coffee. Isn’t the whole idea of a luxury hotel to offer its guests an experience that is above the ordinary?
Heck, every Holiday Inn across the land will give me a coffee pot. But, more than a few hotels in the luxury segment forgo this very simple accommodation.
Dear luxury hotel industry, here’s a hint: when we don’t have a coffee pot in our room, we are not having a wow experience. In fact, we’re so annoyed that we write articles about the subject.
Luxury travelers want a coffee pot in their rooms!
I know, many luxury hoteliers offer complimentary coffee in their lobbies. But come on, do you really enjoy traipsing like a zombie to the lobby for a cup of coffee?
I’ll never forget one luxury San Francisco hotel that offered complimentary coffee only between the hours of 5:00 – 7:00 a.m. I got there at 7:10 a.m. and the whole coffee table was gone! I had to walk a block in my disheveled condition to get my bride her morning coffee.
Perhaps even worse is the idea of paying $3.50 a cup for room service coffee that you wait 45 minutes to receive!
Come on luxury hotel industry! A Keurig B130 hospitality coffee pot costs $60. When you amortize that over 365 days, it costs you 16¢/day.
Heck, isn’t your guest’s happiness worth 16¢?
Here’s a deal, charge me $7 more per night for my hotel stay (room service coffee rates for two), give me a nice coffee pot in my room, and we can quit talking about this ever again. Deal?
