One of the great hallmarks of a world-class luxury resort is their ability to deliver highly memorable experiences.  And, if they’re smart, deliver them unexpectedly, or with a sense of anticipation.

We’re currently visiting the historic Hotel del Coronado, and invited Carol’s cousin Mike and his wife Suganya (they live nearby) to come join us for dinner at the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, 1500 Ocean (more on our dining experience in another post).

While we were enjoying a fabulous time of reconnecting, and the excellent cuisine and service of 1500 Ocean, there was a sense of anticipation in the air because our hostess at the Hotel del Coronado told us to wear warm clothing as they had a special dessert experience for us on the beach at 8:45 p.m.

Promptly at 8:45, our waiter ushered us out to the beach where we found four beach chairs, a roaring beach bonfire, a bottle of champagne, and all of the fixings to make s’mores.

What a fabulous and completely unexpected experience!  Congratulations Hotel del Coronado!  This was an experience that will certainly jump to the front of our minds when folks ask us about favorite experiences.

Oh, by the way, when you visit the Hotel del Coronado, you too can surprise your friend, family, or lover with a special beach bonfire.  Just check with the front desk, and make certain that you also use the element of surprise.  🙂  Have fun!
