The stock market is up, and baby boomer travelers are busy traveling the world.

I was talking with a friend the other day, and he asked how it is that Carol and I seem to be well on our way to building a second very successful business.

After whining a bit about having to start another business in the first place after the stock market crash of 2008 decimated our early retirement plans; I gave pause to contemplate my answer.

I told him that there are 80,000,000 baby boomers.  In the early-90s, Carol and I started a mortgage company and stood in front of these 80,000,000 baby boomers as they were buying their first homes, then second homes, and for some of them, their McMansions.

At the peak, we sold our mortgage company, accomplished our early-retirement plans, moved to Scottsdale and started to travel the world.

So, why is our business enjoying success?  Well, there are a lot of reasons.  But, one of them is that Carol and I are again standing in front of those 80,000,000 baby boomers.  And what do they now want to do?

Travel!

I say all of that to share with you that since the last presidential election, the stock market and travel have both been nothing but up, up, up.

Consider this: if you’re a retired baby boomer with $500,000 in retirement savings and you have the money invested in the stock market, then you have an extra $100K from this year’s stock market gains.  And, if you have $1,000,000 in retirement savings, then you now have another $200,000 from this year’s stock market gains.

AND, what are these boomers doing with this new-found cash?  Well, they’re taking some of it and doing river cruises, ocean cruises, expedition cruises, and land journeys all over the planet.

Just like the baby boomers created a massive housing spike in the 80s and 90s, they are now creating a massive spike in the travel industry.

I was reading an article in Cruise Industry News a while back (link), and it shared that there are a record 90 new cruise ships on order and they can’t seem to build them fast enough.

Hmmm.  Maybe we should be investing in shipbuilding stocks.

Moral of the Story: book early, grasshopper!  Every day we talk to people who can’t believe that 2018 travel opportunities are filling up so fast.

Carol and I have no major travel plans until May of 2018.  So, we’re here and ready for your call.
