Approaching Arizona Monsoon
Approaching Arizona Monsoon – It is a little known fact that Arizona has five seasons. Winter, Spring, mid-Summer, Monsoon, and Fall.
We just finished our mid-Summer season where temperatures can reach 115º w/ humidity levels of only 4%. We have now crossed into our monsoon season, and here is my capture of our very first monsoon of the season.
Prior to the storm coming through, temperatures were around 105º. After the storm came through, temps dropped to 70º. Monsoons bring stunningly beautiful lightening storms, massive amounts of rain in a very short time, and because our surroundings are primarily sand, monsoons produce flash-floods that can be very dangerous.
The other benefit of living in an area that produces monsoons is that they create dramatic photo opportunities for photographers.
I shot this out the front door of our home last night.
Love it! We are in Toronto far from our Mesa home so we just hope our drainage is up to the arriving water. No doubt the temperature relief is much welcome.

Hi Ann,
Thanks for stopping by! I worry about the drainage issue every time is
rains here in the desert. They don’t do home drainage here like they do
back in the midwest. Where’s my rain gutters for example? LOL
