This ancient stairway leads up to the Palais des Papas (Palace of the Popes) in Avignon, France. Just up this stairway are mobs of enthusiastic travelers snapping photographs of the palace.

And while I certainly did some of that myself, I’m always looking around to find scenes like this that perhaps everyone else missed in all of the excitement.

My arthritic knees didn’t like coming down these steps, but my eyes are sure enjoying the fruits of the labor.
