The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, Iguanas, and a Stunning Caribbean Sunrise
St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands – it’s day #2 of our 25th wedding anniversary tour and today we find ourselves still happily at the Ritz-Carlton on the island of St. Thomas.
This morning we enjoyed breakfast in bed, got a little work done on our Internet sites, and then relished in a wonderful couples massage on the beach. The photograph below shows you the view from our massage cabana.
After our couples massage we wobbled our way (noodle legs from the massage) back to the spa to enjoy a nice steam bath, and the peaceful serenity of the Ritz-Carlton Spa.
Refreshed and ready to enjoy the day, we traipsed about a half mile over to the Ritz-Carlton’s Coconut Grove Cove restaurant, and enjoyed a scrumptious blackened grouper sandwich. YUM!
As we were walking back to the main pool area, this iguana was sunning himself in the lawn. As I approached him, he raised up on his front legs as if to say, “not too close buster”.
Once again, we spent the bulk of the day lounging around the pool, reading books, watching people play in the ocean with kayaks, surf boards, wind surfers, snorkeling, and watched as the Ritz-Carlton’s large catamaran was shuttling people to various adventures out in the Caribbean.
For dinner we decided to venture off to the nearby town of Red Hook. Boy has this town changed since we were last here. Evidently some company came in and dredged the bay so that 100ft yachts could get in the harbor. This has significantly changed the landscape of this little town to where it now features some nightlife, and wonderful restaurants.
At the recommendation of an Italian gentleman that Carol was talking to in the pool, we enjoyed a wonderful Italian meal at Red Hook’s East End Cafe (soon to be renamed Pesce). We didn’t realize it until after dinner, but the Bartender of the Year for the whole Caribbean resides in this restaurant. He was sharing some of the amazing concoctions that he creates using specially designed chemicals. He described one drink called the lava lamp which somehow has frozen balls of some sort of alcohol bobbing up and down in your frosty glass. Sounds fun!
That was our day! Wonderful and fun-filled. But before I leave today’s article, I want to share with you the sunrise that I captured at 5:30 this morning from the Ritz-Carlton.
Its actually Coconut *Cove* Restaurant 🙂 Lovey place, lovely property. Have worked here for 3 & 1/2 years (at Coconut Cove for 2 & 1/2 years)
Spectacular. What a perfect post. I have to go there. Now!
