COVID-19 Travel Update
COVID-19 Travel Update
This week’s COVID-19 Travel Update finds our country experiencing a full-frontal assault from the coronavirus with confirmed cases topping 100,000.
Therefore, our greatest wish is that you and yours remain healthy, hunkered down, and practicing all of the preventative safety measures required.
The U.S. State Department still has the Global Level 4 Health – Do Not Travel Internationally Advisory posted (click here). Consequently, until this advisory lifts, traveling overseas is not recommended.
We pray that our country soon sees the top of the coronavirus curve and that we can all begin to contemplate life on the other side of this mess.
Until then, here are our thoughts about travel and COVID-19.
Travel and the COVID-19 Coronavirus
- Don’t Overreact. With our politically divided and motivated 24/7 media, it is challenging to sort out fact from fiction. With March and April travel canceled, May travel will soon be under the magnifying glass. We all now have “cancel for any reason” vouchers attached to our travel plans. The challenge is when to act. If you make a move now, and then your travel brand cancels your journey, you may find yourself missing out on a more attractive offer. If you have travel booked in June and beyond, unless you have a significant final payment decision coming, consider sitting pat for now.
- A Caveat. A large percentage of our clients are taking their future travel vouchers and rebooking for 2021. With 2021 sales well underway before the start of the coronavirus issue, rebookings from 2020 are putting pressure on availability for some dates in 2021. Therefore, if you have a defined travel window, let’s begin talks about rebooking for those of you who might want March, April, and May of 2021.
Other Travel Thoughts
The 2020 Oberammergau Passion Play is canceled and rescheduled for 2022. As travel brands secure new tickets for the event, be on the lookout for future announcements.
The travel industry is in great distress right now. But, we’re not alone. Consider a take-out meal from your favorite local restaurant this weekend. Without your help, many of them will not make it through this crisis.
This Too Will Pass
As we keep saying, at some point, the COVID-19 Coronavirus will be a distant memory.
Therefore, our travel prescription of the day is to rebook your March, April, and perhaps May overseas travel plans.
