Big Sur: Long Weekend Getaway

If you’re looking for a long-weekend getaway for 2020, let us recommend a journey to Big Sur, California.

Other than perhaps Route 66, there isn’t another drive in the U.S. as magical as Highway 1 along California’s Big Sur coast.

Carol and I have made this journey twice, and I would gleefully do it again.  It is one of those spots that captures your heart and won’t let go.

You should also know that the summer months are busy, and there is also a high probability of fog.  We went one year in August to celebrate our anniversary and never saw the ocean because of the very thick fog.

If we were to go again, we would target September or October.

Both of our visits found us staying at Ventana Big Sur as the Post Ranch Inn was completely sold out. I suspect this is because the Post Ranch Inn sits right on the ocean where Ventana Big Sur is across the highway.
