One of our favorites on Hawaii, the Big Island, is the Waimea Town Market which happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This small market will bring you a host of things that you can bring back to your hotel room, and it is also a wonderful place to have breakfast.

Here’s Carol with Michigan friends, Bob & Karen Schroeder, enjoying a fresh cooked omelet from one of the market’s vendors.

Bob and Karen have long been bragging about the “Waimea Bread Lady”. Here’s Karen with a fresh baked loaf.

While Karen was picking up the bread, Carol was scoping out local jams and jellies.

If you find yourself on Hawai’i, the Big Island, make certain to check out the Waimea Town Market to stock up your hotel room with fresh Hawaiian organic foods to make quick, easy, and healthy meals.

Eddie V’s Scottsdale Quarter - We absolutely love fresh fish, and Eddie V’s has been a staple in our Scottsdale dining regime for nearly a decade.

Eddie V’s Scottsdale Quarter – We absolutely love fresh fish, and Eddie V’s has been a staple in our Scottsdale dining regime for nearly a decade.

In fact, Mrs. Roaming Boomer went through a period of time where a night on the town seemingly meant a beeline for Eddie V’s.

Eddie V’s Restaurants are well known in the valley for sourcing the freshest fish, but also for their ability to create an incredible dining experience.

Adding to the experience side of the equation is a relocation of the restaurant to the trendy, new Scottsdale Quarter.

The new 8,800 square-foot Eddie V’s will seat 275 people and features three separate private dining rooms in addition to the main dining areas.

One room is dramatically situated in a round rotunda, another overlooks the “V” Lounge and the third is tucked behind the stage and features a “speak-easy” style entrance. The Oyster Bar and the Wine Room will be the restaurant’s focal points and live music will set the mood nightly in the V lounge.

The interior design is modern feeling with a sexy mix of wood, tile, neutral tones with a touch of sparkle created with the uses of glass, tile, and beautiful lighting.

Beautiful new diggs for a restaurant that has been a stalwart in our Scottsdale dining regime.

Another somewhat shocking feature of the new Eddie V’s is found in the bathrooms.

As I was washing my hands, I noticed that I could hear a conversation going on in the women’s bathroom as though they were standing right next to me.As I surveyed the situation, I noticed that the men’s and women’s sinks share a common wall. However, if you peek under the sink, you will notice that there is no wall under the sinks separating the two rooms.

So, not only could I clearly hear the canards going on in the women’s bathroom, I could see, from the knees down, the actual gals making all the fuss in the adjoining bathroom.

That was different!

Now, let’s get on to the cuisine.

We were seated in a very romantic, circular booth. As I gazed around the room, I noticed a number of white-coated sentry’s strategically placed around the room. Clearly, they were taught to keep an eye on the guest’s tables. If a wondering eye rose about the room, they snapped into action and attended to your every wish.

Wow!

Mike from Boston was our waiter, and we began with a nice glass of champagne as we studied our menus.

While sipping our bubbly, General Manager Richard Schumacher stopped by our table to make us feel welcome, and shared with us his obvious excitement about the experience we were about to have.

Carol started the evening out with Tartare of Ahi Tuna, accented with curry & sesame oils, avocados, mangoes, and a squeeze of fresh citrus. After sneaking a taste of her appetizer, I grabbed my Motorola Droid and professed to the world that this dish was capable of producing Mouthgasms. Absolutely out of this world!

With a sushi bar on premise, I opted for Hawaiian Yellowtail Crudo with red chiles, toasted coriander, and ponzu. This was very good, but I was still gobsmacked by the Tuna Tartare.

Next, on our gastronomical journey, was 16 Vegetable Salad with a vinaigrette and goat cheese fondant. It was beautifully presented, crisp, fresh, and had, you guessed it…16 different vegetables.

Now, for Carol’s entree, we come to the reason she has been such a passionate fan of Eddie V’s all these years: North Atlantic Lemon Sole, which has a perfect Parmesan crust with a hint of lemon-garlic butter and served with a tomato and herb salad. In fact, in the many, many times we have dined at Eddie V’s, she has never once strayed from her beloved Lemon Sole.

Actually, it really is quite worth her longstanding admiration.

For my entree, I opted for Chilean Sea Bass. I am a huge lover of Chilean Sea Bass, and I have also grown fond of the steamed Hong Kong Style over the years. A wonderful dish, expertly prepared.

For dessert, Mike from Boston raved about Hot Bananas Foster Butter Cake with Butter Pecan Ice Cream. As you can see below, it was clearly the reason that we have the word decadent in our vocabulary.

However, I was a little concerned that Mike from Boston enjoyed torching our dessert just a little too much.

We laughed, he torched, Carol and I looked at one another, laughed again, and enjoyed a splendid dessert to end our journey.

I am completely convinced that the owners of Eddie V’s made a wise decision moving to Scottsdale Quarter. The ambiance was sublime, the food outstanding, and now Scottsdale Quarter presents a wonderful place to take a romantic after dinner stroll. We highly recommend Eddie V’s Scottsdale Quarter, and I am certain that we will be back again, and again.

Disclosure: this wonderful experience was provided by the kind folks at Eddie V’s. Thank you very, very much!
