Itinerary: Flagstaff’s 24th Annual Winterfest

This weekend we have planned the maiden journey for The Roaming Boomers travel and adventure website. When we noticed that Flagstaff was having its 24th Annual Winterfest, we thought this might be a fun little excursion to try out our travel planning systems.

Coming Up: The Arizona Renaissance Festival

Assuming nice weather, we have a date set to visit the Arizona Renaissance Festival.  It should be colorful and fun!

A Night at the Famous El Tovar on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

I splurged for a deluxe suite, and that night we walked out our private patio door, sat in lounge chairs with a piping hot cup of coffee (it was November and 40º outside), and enjoyed an incredible sunset looking out at the Grand Canyon. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Breakfast at Tortilla Flats

When you walk into Tortilla Flats, you will immediately notice the walls papered with $1 bills, and you can belly up to the bar on real leather saddles while you enjoy your cackleberries (hen’s eggs) for breakfast, or perhaps a monstrous Bull Rider burger for lunch.

Visiting Arizona’s Montezuma Castle

Another feature of our new website will be visiting areas outside of the Phoenix valley. Arizona, with its arid climate,  has many wonderful places of antiquity to visit that have been remarkably preserved. A wonderful place to visit, and a short hop off the I-17 is Montezuma’s Castle. From the National Park Service website: “On [...]

Staying at Fairmont’s Scottsdale Princess Resort

Little did we know that a decade later we would sell our business, and move a few short miles down the street from this venerable resort. The memories of “Dive-in Movies” in the pool, fabulous restaurants, and of course 19 consecutive years worth of AAA Five-Diamond Awards make this resort a must stay place in our minds.

Dining at Eddie’s House in Scottsdale, Arizona

A regular feature on this blog will be sharing our culinary experiences with you.  I am a great lover of exploration, and my senses are certainly a part of that adventure. Be it sights, sounds, tastes, smells, or even perhaps the occasional touch, we intend to share it with you. Certainly a big part of [...]

The 2010 Scottsdale Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction

We just returned home from our first visit to Scottsdale’s 2010 Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction.  What a blast! This 39th annual event draws massive numbers of people each year.  In fact, we started our adventure in a remote parking lot where a luxury bus shuttled us to the actual event.  You could tell that [...]

Coming Saturday: The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show

We made a pre-visit to the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show today in preparation for our shoot on Saturday.  These horses are very beautiful to look at.

The 2010 Conde’ Naste Traveler Gold List

Conde’ Naste Traveler Magazine just announced its 2010 Gold List. About 20 years ago, my wife and I hired an unknown travel agent to book us a romantic trip to the Bahamas.  The brochures were beautiful, but when we got there we were completely aghast at this so called resort.  It more resembled someone’s backyard. [...]
